Meredith O’ Donovan, a young Irish woman, lives with her six-year-old son, Ian, in a small Irish town. Ian’s father abandoned them when Ian was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder. The young boy often creates problem with his behaviour and brings his mother to her wits end. When, one day, he begins to behave manically, drawing peculiar pictures, repeating unknown words and mentioning names and places his mother doesn’t recognise, while asking her to take him there “to his mother”, Meredith doesn’t know what to do. Only Shirley, her sister, a teacher, takes his words seriously. Everything that her nephew is saying and referring to are connected to the island of Crete.
But how can a six-year-old boy know so many things about the names and places of this island? The two women decide to visit Crete. Following Ian’s drawings, words, and names, they are lead to a village named Anatoli where, half a century before, something terrible took place, and Ian seems to be related to it…
